Black Friday smart home deals can save real money, but only if you buy the right device and the discount is genuine. This page lists the smart home and kitchen picks from our own buying guides, explains which ones to buy before Black Friday, and shows how to check a “deal” against the product’s real price history in under a minute.

Key dates for 2026: Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26, Black Friday is November 27 and Cyber Monday is November 30. Amazon already held its Prime Big Deal Days on October 6–7, which it described as kicking off holiday shopping. As of October 9, Amazon hadn’t announced the dates of its Black Friday sale. We’ll update this page when it does.

Quick answer: decide what you need first, using our guides, then watch those exact models. Buy Thanksgiving gear (meat thermometer, warming tray) before November 26, because Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving. For everything else, check the price history before you buy: a real deal is lower than the price the product has actually been selling at, not just lower than a “list price”.

Buy these before Black Friday

Black Friday falls the day after Thanksgiving, so anything you need for the Thanksgiving meal has to arrive before it:

If the price drops after you buy, Amazon’s return policy may still help (see below), but the main thing is having it in time.

How to tell if a Black Friday deal is real

A big “% off” label doesn’t prove a bargain. The Federal Trade Commission’s Guides Against Deceptive Pricing (16 CFR 233.1) say a “former price” is only a fair comparison if the product was actually offered at that price “for a reasonably substantial period of time”. An inflated price used only to make a discount look bigger is, in the FTC’s words, a “false” bargain.

You can check this yourself:

  1. Look up the price history. Free tools such as camelcamelcamel show a chart of an Amazon product’s past prices and can email you when it drops. The Keepa browser extension adds a price-history chart directly to Amazon product pages.
  2. Compare with the recent typical price, not the list price. If the “deal” price matches what the product sold for most of the last few months, it isn’t really a discount.
  3. Check it’s the model you researched. Older and newer versions can be listed at the same time. For example, Amazon lists both the older Ring Battery Doorbell Plus and the newest Ring Battery Doorbell, and the Ring No-Drill Mount we recommend is made for the newest models.
  4. Check who’s selling it. On the product page, see whether it ships from and is sold by Amazon or a third-party seller, as returns and support can differ.

What to check before buying any smart home device

These checks come from our individual guides, and they matter more than the discount:

  • Does it work with your system? A Matter-certified plug works with Alexa, Google Home and Apple Home. Some devices work with only one. See our smart plug guide.
  • Is there an ongoing subscription? Many video doorbells only save recordings with a paid plan. Ring doorbells give you live view and alerts without one, but no recorded history. Our no-subscription doorbell guide covers models that record locally.
  • Outdoor rating: for outdoor lights, check the plug’s IP rating. Our outdoor plug guide explains IP44, IP64 and IP65.
  • Load rating: check the plug’s maximum amps and watts against what you’re plugging in. Our guide on putting Christmas lights on a timer explains how.

Returns and gifts

For the 2025 holiday season, Amazon let customers return most items bought between November 1 and December 31 until January 31, according to its holiday return policy page. Check Amazon’s current holiday policy before relying on it this year, as terms can change. Amazon also says gift recipients can start a return with the 17-digit order number on the packing slip or digital gift receipt, without needing the giver’s account.

FAQ

When is Black Friday 2026?

Friday, November 27, 2026, the day after Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 26). Cyber Monday is November 30.

Has Amazon announced its Black Friday sale dates?

Not as of October 9, 2026. Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days already ran on October 6–7. We’ll add the Black Friday dates here once Amazon announces them.

Are Black Friday deals on Amazon real discounts?

Some are and some aren’t. Check the product’s price history with a tool like camelcamelcamel or Keepa: a real deal is below the price the product has actually been selling at recently.

Should I wait for Black Friday to buy a turkey thermometer?

No. Thanksgiving comes first, so buy it in time to test it before the meal.
